Chimera – Oil on linen 16″ x 20″
I found the snail and boy in my latest foray to the antique malls. I keep looking for small figurines that are expressive, amusing, pensive, sad…. The antique clock is on loan from my Kendallville dealer, Elisa Ellsworth of the Wilson Gallery. (Thanks Elisa!)
I like to see a combination of finishes in the work, some alla prima marks as in the top of the wooden chest, some very carefully transitioned mid-tones as in the little boy. The clock face is very atmospheric, the snail bright and snappy. The snail, I thought, has tremendous personality.
The piece is currently on view at the Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne and measures 16” x 20”.
I love this painting..it's magical..
